Carbon Orotones
Orotones are a traditional type of photographic print, created by printing on a glass plate and then backing the glass with gold leaf or pigment. My orotones were made using a direct-carbon process, where photo-sensitive gelatin mixed with black ink has been poured onto a glass plate, exposed, developed and then backed with gold paint. This process gives the print a sense of depth, and rewards viewing from a range of different angles to take in how the scene shifts with varying perspective.
Carbon printing is also traditionally considered one of the most archival processes, meaning that they are exceptionally resistant to fading or changing, even after decades or centuries.
